Cracks In The Earth Open And Close During Japan’s 2011 Earthquake

In this video you'll witness the ground opening and closing during the magnitude 9.0 earthquake that struck Northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, with some areas squirting water to the surface. This is  known as liquefaction. When saturated soil experiences tremendous stress, the water pressure increases dramatically. This causes the soil to move more freely, behaving more like a liquid than a solid.
