Global
shark tracker is a GPS based tracking system
that allows visitors to the web site to be
able to select a shark and see its
geographical location as well as track
history.
A ping is
determined when a tagged shark's dorsal fin
breaks the surface of the water and transmits
a signal to the satellite overhead. The
transmission then sends back an estimated
geo-location.
The Global Shark Tracker is available on Oceansearch.org.
OCEARCH is a non-profit organization with a global reach for unprecedented research on great white sharks and other large apex predators.
