Now here is something that really sucks,
sucks a lot, but for a good purpose.
Take carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and turn it into
fuel. This is
Carbon Engineering's
ambition.
The company is aiming the facility at areas where reforestation isn't an option, such as deserts.
Air is pulled in through the series of fans which
feed into a carbon dioxide rich solution, helping
to eliminate carbon compounds from the air. That solution is then purified, at which point Carbon Engineering extracts the carbon dioxide for reuse or disposal in underground facilities. The solution is re-purified in the process, enabling it to be reused.
This technology is based on the same way that trees capture CO2 and release
oxygen.
