Butt Batteries: Cigarette Filters Converts To Energy

Charge a mobile device or Tablet, Power a Computer, electrical vehicle, or Wind Turbine. A group of scientists believe they can convert cigarette filters into a material that could be converted to energy.

This material can be used to coat the electrodes of super capacitors, which are components that can store extremely large amounts of electrical energy.

Researchers claim the material's performance is better then carbon, graphene and carbon nano tubes which are currently used to do the same job of producing energy.

Around 5.6 trillion used-cigarettes, or 766,571 tones, of used cigarettes are disposed of yearly, worldwide.

"A high-performing super capacitor material should have a large surface area, which can be achieved by incorporating a large number of small pores into the material," said Professor Yi.

"A combination of different pore sizes ensures that the material has high power densities, which is an essential property in a super capacitor for the fast charging and discharging."
