Brewery Has Created Biodegradable Six-Pack Holders That Can Be Eaten By Marine Life

When it comes to oceans and marine life, we all know that ocean pollution is a huge problem. One problem in particular that threatens, kills, and destroys marine life are those plastic rings that hold 6 packs beverage cans together. When these rings are discarded, many wind up in our oceans, tangling  around, if not literally choking some poor marine creature to death as shown below.

An estimated 1 million birds and 100,000 marine mammals and turtles die every year from the six-pack holders a year, after being entrapped or swallowing them. This is totally unacceptable!

Saltwater Brewery is rolling out fully edible six-pack rings. These ring holders are made out of a pulp from byproducts of the brewing process, such as wheat and barley. Totally biodegradable, and are as strong as their plastic counterparts.

The company has created a few hundred of the holders, and they hope to turn up their production to 400,000 six-pack rings every month. They hope other companies will follow suit and develop their own edible six-pack ring holders.
